The Marma Points of Sword Dancing |
|
Dancing with the sword can add physical balance and control to your techniques. It also adds pressure and mental awareness to pressure points/Marmas. These articles and it’s context are for the purpose of self awareness and does not diagnose or suggest any medial conditional or cures for conditions. It’s purpose is to bring awareness to broaden the inner mental perceptions of dancing with a sword. |

Balancing on the head: |
|
The point on top of the head that awareness is brought to is call Brahmarandhra. Brahmarandhra is translated as the opening to the creator. It has the function of unfolding creative intelligence. Brahma means creation or the expansive state of consciousness. Creativity is attributed too the movement that expresses itself as the dynamic movement of one’s mind and thoughts. It is only with the freedom of movement that creativity can flourish. |

This Marma is functionally related to the anterior cerebral artery, anterior cranial fossa and olfactory bulb. Its association with the pituitary gland explains its relationship in assisting with hormonal imbalances. Also related to the 10th cranial nerve, which is directly linked to the cardiac plexus. The brain and the heart have an intimate association. In that the brain is responsible for processing knowledge into wisdom, while in the heart it processes emotions into compassion. Related to the frontal lobe of the brain, which is the seat of emotions. It is also associated with the limbic system, which is connected to emotional behavior. In Ayurveda, emotions are classified by their nature and correspond to distinct segments of the brain. For example the superior frontal controls emotions related to anxiety, fear, loneliness, nervousness, and insecurity. While as the middle frontal is related to such emotions as anger, irritability and rage. It is believed that Brahmarandhra transforms feelings and emotions into pure consciousness through the process of cognitive functions including perception into knowledge. Brahmarandhra can be stimulated to improve memory, clarify judgment and reasoning, and bring about a level of concentration. It can also bring relief of depression or other emotional disturbances, sinus, tension or migraine headaches and hiccups. |

A thought to think about the next time you place your dancing sword to this Marma point. All the body’s anterior nadis (nerve ending) meet at Brahmarandhra. In meditative practice, a yogi directs Kundalini( latent energy in the spine) shakti (cool, source of all, moon like, feminine energy) to Brahmarandhra, opening the doors to spiritual liberation. When prostrating before a guru (teacher of self), one touches this point to the guru’s feet. This gesture of humility and surrender is symbolic of saying, “Take away my mind so to be free of the ego.” |
